Moral of the story, just run 2019 because it's supported. In the meantime you're fined by the IRS because you can't get your data out of Quickbooks or you have to spend days to generate a report by hand that used to be instantaneous.

A lot of times you'll install it and everything will open and you can use it properly but then 6 months later some critical feature that you rarely use (like running some report that only needs to happen once a year or something) does not work and Intuit's response to the situation will typically be 'It's your computer.' for a month then 'Yes, we know about the issue we'll put you on the notification list.' for another 3 months then 'Upgrade to the new version to resolve the issue.' without ever notifying you. You can always do this but I've never felt like it was really possible to properly test applications like Quickbooks. You can spin a Windows Server 2022 virtual machine right away to do some basic testing whether QB works appropriately on it or not. SA is typically only good for 2 years and Win Server typically follows a 3 year release cycle There is no point on getting SA right after the new OS releases unless you are OK renewing that SA in two years other wise it will expire before the next version comes out. It doesn't mean you have to install that version you can always use downgrade rights to the previous version if you want (I wouldn't unless there was a specific reason to) The release of a new OS is the best time to get your licensing as that is the point when your investment will last for the longest time possible. So if you like Open licensing you have less than a month to Purchase Server 2022. You will then be forced over to the CSP program. Keep in mind that the Open Licensing program for Server licensing ends Dec 31 of this year. Jan 2024 isn't far away, but I guess the extended end date is the one to watch Jan 2029. However, I do hate buying WIndows Server when a new version comes out! I don't want to be on the bleeding edge, but I hate losing years of support in the future. The MS team at TD/Synnex said they were seeing more people buy 2019 with 2 years SA. I think we did it for the downgrade rights. I've been doing open licensing the last few servers. I support many accounting firms running Intuit products and currently have clients with RDS, local, and Azure environments. Let me know if you have any questions on any of this. When Server 2022 is eventually added to the list of supported Operating Systems, you can easily upgrade 2019 to 2022.

Install the QB Database Manager and RDS on the Data/File Server. With the downgrade rights, here is what **I** would do: Install Server 2022 Standard as a Hyper-V hypervisor, and two virtuals (you can run 2 virutals with Standard): Server 2022 DC, and Server 2019 Data/File server. I highly recommend that you stick with the supported environment of QuckBooks Enterprise (current version is 22.0) and Server 2019 with RDS. I have had the pleasure of working with QB support before and I can tell you from experience that if you ever need to contact them, and you are running anything that isn't officially supported, they will tell you (in so many words) that you are on your own. Now, regarding Server 2022: We have one client running Server 2022 Standard and the QB Database Manager runs just fine on it. I'm leaning towards Windows 2022 with downgrade rights or 2019 with SA.
